Join the Border Belt Independent and other news outlets for a community forum Sept. 1

Since the Border Belt Independent launched more than a year ago, we have been dedicated to serving residents of Bladen, Columbus, Robeson and Scotland counties.

Now we’re excited to partner with the NC Local News Workshop, along with Carolina Public Press and UNC’s Carolina Demography, to host a community forum on Thursday, Sept. 1. And you’re invited.

The free event, which will begin with dinner at 6 p.m. at the Thomas Entrepreneurship Hub at UNC-Pembroke, is not a panel discussion. Instead, participants will break into small groups to discuss news stories that matter most to them, and how they access news.

This is a chance to make your voice heard. Journalists will use the information shared by participants to make better-informed decisions about what kind of news stories they should produce.

If you have questions about the event, reach out to Shannan Bowen, executive director of the NC Local News Workshop, at sbowen5@elon.edu
