Journalist Heidi Perez-Moreno joins Border Belt Independent

The Border Belt Independent is proud to announce Heidi Perez-Moreno has joined the staff as a full-time reporter.

Perez-Moreno is a graduate of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. As a student, she wrote for The Daily Tar Heel, helping to produce breaking news, features and long-form pieces. She also assisted with the publication’s weekly newspaper production.

Perez-Moreno comes to the BBI from The Washington Post, where she worked as a travel reporter for the Features section. The team she was on writes breaking and long-form content that offers tips, answers questions and provides resources aimed at better informing travelers across the world. She started at the Post last summer as a Metro reporting intern on the transportation team.

“The work that the BBI has accomplished since its inception is integral to informing and shaping lives in rural southeastern North Carolina,” Perez-Moreno said. “And I’m grateful to be able to tell those stories alongside the rest of the team.”

When she’s off work, Perez-Moreno can be found writing poetry and short stories, watching movies, listening to music and reading with coffee in hand.
