The Robeson County Board of Commissioners will get a new member after Pauline Campbell lost the Democratic primary on Tuesday for the District 2 seat.

Melvin Ellison won 53.87% of the vote, while Campbell won 46.12%, according to unofficial results from the N.C. State Board of Elections. No Republicans are running for the seat, so Ellison will almost assuredly be the winner in the November general election.

Ellison, who currently serves on the Fairmont Board of Commissioners, focused his campaign on what he said was a need for leadership change in the county.

Two County Commissioners Win

County Commissioner Lance Herndon won the Republican primary for the District 8 seat. He secured 52.16% of the vote to beat challenger Harold Smith by 20 votes.

Herndon will face Democrat Mike Ferguson in the November election. Ferguson won the Democratic primary with 66.55% of the vote.

County Commissioner Faline Locklear Dial won the Republican primary for the District 4 seat. She got 74.76% of the vote to beat Scott Bell. No Democrats are running.
