The candidate filing period for the November municipal elections began Monday.
Those seeking elected office have until noon on July 18 to register their candidacy with their local board of elections.
Dozens of seats are up for grabs across Bladen, Columbus, Robeson and Scotland counties. Columbus County has the most in the region, with 33. Robeson County has 24, Bladen County has 14, and Scotland County has nine.
A full list of candidates, which is updated daily, can be found on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
Municipal elections typically see low voter turnout, so a handful of votes can determine a community’s leadership.
The voter registration deadline for November’s election is 5 p.m. on Oct. 10. Election Day is Nov. 4.
