Hurricane Nicole is expected to bring rain and the potential for tornadoes to southeastern North Carolina starting Thursday.
The chance of rain will increase throughout the day Thursday, and the region could see between 1 and 2 inches of rain Thursday night into Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. “Few to several” tornadoes could occur during that time.
Hurricane Nicole made landfall on the eastern coast of Florida early Thursday morning and weakened to a tropical storm.

The Weather Service predicts “mostly minor impacts” from the storm in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.
Wind gusts up to 35 to 40 mph are possible, forecasters say. Strong thunderstorms on Friday could create 45 mph gusts.
Flooding isn’t much of a threat inland, but the coast could see 2 inches of flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
“Nicole’s fast motion across the western Carolinas will limit the duration of any impacts,” the service said. “Conditions are expected to improve during Friday night.”
